# Offline Installation

In certain enterprise environments, internet access may be restricted due to company security policies. In such cases, Leapwork can be installed and activated on a completely offline system using the offline installation and activation process. For an overview of the Leapwork Automation Platform components, see [Architecture Overview](https://docs.leapwork.com/leapwork-flow/latest/what-is-leapwork/architecture-overview.md).

## Offline Installation Guide

To start the offline installation, follow the steps below:

1. On an online computer, download the latest release from the [Downloads section](https://portal.leapwork.com/app/downloads) in the Customer Portal.

2. Save and transfer the file to the offline computer.

3. Navigate to the location of the MSI file and double-click the **.msi** file to start the installation.

![image-20260515-115036.png](https://docs.leapwork.com/__attachments/a_47226babef796e9e0ee614e6687cc99ef889e2f6ad5fdaada2a748690ea5a15e/image-20260515-115036.png?cb=8c8fa7451721669954d760a13e98d25b)
**Controller Port:** Flow and the Controller make API calls using a TCP port. The default is port 9000, you can change to any other port number that is not in use by other software on your computer.

**Note:** We do not recommend changing the Controller, Controller API or Agent port numbers.

**Controller API Port:** For integration, access Leapwork's open REST API using the port number set here. The default port is 9001. You can change to any other port number that is not in use by other software on your computer.

**Note:** We do not recommend changing the Controller, Controller API, or Agent port numbers.

**Add Exceptions for the Controller in Windows Firewall:** Select this option to add a rule to the Windows Firewall to permit all incoming connections to the Controller.

**Note:** The password is optional. The Leapwork Automation Platform is used in corporate and secured test networks.
**Path to Assets:** This is the path to the file system folder which contains the encrypted SQLite database files holding all Leapwork assets, automation flows, schedules, and run results.
![image-20260511-121524.png](https://docs.leapwork.com/__attachments/a_6f1fed44f06654cf6a4e7295b93205163f0ff0c9491800234b57e93db169436a/image-20260511-121524.png?cb=57e26621681ed2346d4444fff3506c3f)

10.Enter information into the desired fields and click **Next**. The SQL Server configuration page appears. Configure the following settings to connect the Controller to SQL Server.
The desired fields:
* **Asset Database Name:**By default, it is set to "Assets", but you are free to modify it.

* **Report Database Name:**By default, it is set to "Report", but you are free to modify it.

* **Server Address:**The user can provide the details of their server address. If it's local then it should be localhost, or you can provide the remote IP address or name of that server.

* **Initial Catalog:**Provide the Initial Catalog.

* **Connection Type:**Select the desired connection type. (Standard Security for SQL authentication and Trusted Security for Windows authentication).

* **Username:**Provide the username of the database.

* **Password:**Enter the database password.

* **Integrated Security:**You can enter your integrated security. By default, this is set to SSPI.

**SAVE THE DATABASE ENCRYPTION KEY.** It protects database files created during the upgrade and allows the Controller to access them. The key is required to move the Controller to a new machine or restore the Leapwork system. Store it securely.

22. Specify a password for the default user (admin) and click the **Next** button. Use the admin user in Flow after installation.

![image-20260515-115612.png](https://docs.leapwork.com/__attachments/a_9270c161ced2e49fcf51651734aafc7c5aa9e725bf7e4f18534fe5ed2db58d6b/image-20260515-115612.png?cb=86d48e0232f985f48bb9d5ebff595d6b)
The admin password is securely stored in your local installation. If you forget it, **Leapwork cannot retrieve the password.**Configure the settings on the configuration screen before completing the installation. Leapwork Agents can log into Windows automatically, eliminating the need for the user to be logged in to run a flow. They also support testing Single Sign-on between Windows and other applications.

23. Select either Windows login or set a password, which is blank by default, and click the **Next**button.

![image-20260515-115729.png](https://docs.leapwork.com/__attachments/a_da97d4a9ed78e02f68fa235600dc926561888379646ffbaa47b23580530e2f5e/image-20260515-115729.png?cb=7bbe51e8926881fc1549eab749adbb5a)

* **Agent Port:** Automation flows operate within the Agent, which communicates with Flow and the Controller via a closed remote-control protocol on a designated TCP port. **The default port is 6777,** but this can be changed to any other unused port.

* **Agent Password:** Because the Agent uses a remote-control protocol, it is advised to set a password to prevent unauthorized access.

**Add Exceptions for the Agent in Windows Firewall:** A check in this box will direct the installation process to add a rule to the Windows Firewall to permit all incoming connections to the Agent.

**Note:** Leapwork Agent passwords will begin deprecation and are expected to be removed from the product before the end of the year.
Do not change the controller, controller API, or agent port numbers unless necessary.

24. Click the **Install**button.

![image-20260515-115916.png](https://docs.leapwork.com/__attachments/a_3985eef2e2a0af26767db590e8d5eb8f8baa3c9045de6ccbc785bf78304be8fb/image-20260515-115916.png?cb=e91bc3f3d530313e6b8a4c047f071894)

25. After the installation is complete, click the **Finish**button to exit the installer.

![image-20260515-120212.png](https://docs.leapwork.com/__attachments/a_cf5406943c81da9c921e1c72e72501b198cc04efcf47d60acbb69132d9074bd7/image-20260515-120212.png?cb=d246d143070bef2aae645e4d38d5f643)
**Note:** For an existing distributed Leapwork setup, repeat the installation guide for each component and machine in the environment.
